GARDEN OF EDAN AND ENDANGERED ANIMALS

GARDEN OF EDEN AND ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Artist Lily Hawkes has been working at Our Lady and St Joseph Primary school with the children on a project where they have been looking at endangered animals and considering the human impact on our environment and ecosystems. They have learnt about some of the factors that are causing these animals to become endangered as well as considered any small actions they can take in their own lives that could reduce their own impact on the environment children have experimented with various mediums which included making a clay sculpture of an endangered animal within its own habitat. They have also worked outside where they have been inspired by the range of plants within the school's gardens. Children have also made work inspired by the story of the Garden of Eden where they have considered their own role as ‘caretakers’ for the planet and animals. The upcoming intensive project will build on these themes and be focussed on British endangered species.
