Katie Surridge
Katie Surridge attended the Slade school of art and graduated in 2010. Her work is predominantly focused on sculpture but she explores many mediums within her practice. In 2016 Surridge finished three years training as a blacksmith in Hereford at the National School of Blacksmithing. Most recently she received a bursary from the Winston Churchill memorial trust allowing her to research smelting her own iron from ore.
Learning skills such as blacksmithing and casting metal creates links with the past and helps Katie understand the origins of her own practice. Now confident in forging metal, she is experimenting with infusing these ancient techniques with a contemporary outlook.
